Out Back Kayak - Helpful Tips, Information, Directions:
We recommend that every person in your group have some dry clothing available to themfor after the tour. Let's face it-- you're going to be kayaking, and by the very nature of the sport you're going to get wet. However, after having their fun on the river, many of our clients feel better changing into some dry clothing. It is also very important that on chillier days (often after a rain, and usually the best time to be on the river) to avoid wearing cotton clothing. Once wet, cotton has little to no insulating ability. Wear wool or any of the newer synthetic insulators such as fleece or polypropylene. If you're a little short on some of these items we have a selection of appropriate clothing and wetsuits available for sale and rent at our shop in Woodstock.
Watches (unless waterproof), delicate jewelry, wallets and other valuables are best left behind for your outing on the river. Cameras should either be waterproof or stowed in a dry bag, and firmly affixed to your body.
It is usually a good idea to eat about an hour prior to going "on tour" with us. Paddling takes a lot of energy, and there is no food available once out on the river. Bringing along a small container of juice or water is helpful for keeping your thirst at bay. Finally, reservations are recommended, but not necessary on weekends from Memorial to Labor Day.
